PE and Sport at Marine Park Primary
School
At
Marine Park Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health
and well-being of the children. We believe that a creative, varied PE
curriculum and sporting competition will have a positive impact on the attitude
and academic achievement of all our children. Funding will enable us to
continue to provide provision through hiring specialist coaching, training our
staff to improve teaching and learning of quality PE and providing children
with experience to compete in competitive competitions.
Vision
A creative and balanced PE
curriculum is fundamental in
providing children with outstanding PE, school sport and physical activity.
Children will be empowered to lead positive, informed attitudes towards
lifelong participation. Provision will challenge, nurture and engage children, leading
to a positive healthy lifestyle.
What
is, Primary PE and Sport Premium?
The government is spending over
£450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools
over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. The premium should be used to improve the
quality and breadth of PE and sport provision and provide new and
substantial primary school sport. The funding is being jointly provided by the
Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see
money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the
quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive £8,000
plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years - here at Marine
Park Primary School that will mean around £9,000 a year.
How is the funding spent?
Funding can be spent
on the following:-
- hire specialist PE teachers
or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE
lessons
- support and involve the
least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday
clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
- provide resources and
training courses in PE and sport for teachers
- run sport competitions or
increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
- run sports activities with
other schools
Accountability
Schools will be held to account for how they spend
the sport funding. Ofsted will strengthen its coverage of Sport and PE within
Inspectors’ Handbook and supporting guidance. Schools will be required to
include details about their sporting provision on their school website,
alongside their curriculum details.
